Tech update - Samsung Galaxy Note 4

It is no secret to those who know me that I am a bit of a tech geek. I love tinkering with gadgets and gizmo's so it's no surprise that my new phone is the fancy (tablet-sized) Note 4 by Samsung.

My first impression of this phone when I saw it in the shops was... this phone is bloody huge! Especially when you compare it to the Galaxy S3 that I've been sporting for the last 2 years, but it doesn't take long to get used to the size. So what does it have to offer?

Size & shape
Like I said before, the first thing that stands out about this phone is the sheer size of it. It has a 5.7 inch screen which is considerably larger than the 4.8 inch screen on my S3. With a screen this big, it has basically replaced my tablet as I now use my phone for things like watching netflix or youtube. My poor tablet has now been resigned to my bedside cabinet and who knows when it will see the light of day again.
This phone is a lot more square in shape than my previous phone which combined with the increase in size, makes it almost impossible to fit into the front pocket of a standard pair of womens jeans and sticks out quite far from a back pocket. This is slightly disappointing for me as I do like to take my phone everywhere with me but I think it's a minor downside compared to the advantages that the larger screen offers.

Display & camera
The display on this thing is amazing! It has a "Quad HD Super Amoled display" (quite a mouthful, I know) and it results in a super sharp picture quality that is great for viewing photos and videos in high definition. It also has a 16 MP camera of the back of the phone which is great for taking snaps on the go and has built-in image stabilization so blurry pictures are less likely.

S Pen
One of the newest features that this phone has to offer that I am still getting used to is the S Pen. It is a stylus specifically designed to work with this phone which slots neatly into the bottom of the phone for storage (unfortunately I didn't show this in any of the pictures). It allows you to use features such as 'screen write' in which you can take a photo or screenshot and then make notes on top of it. Another of these features is 'smart select' which allows you to capture information from the screen and then use it elsewhere or save it for use later.

A similar phone to the Note 4 is the Galaxy S5 but that is smaller and doesn't have the S Pen. To be honest it was a toss up between the two, but I'm really happy with my decision to get the Note 4. As is common with Android, you can customize this phone as much as you like and really add your own personal touch to a device that you will be using a lot of the time and I would definitely recommend it.
