Pick Your Own Fruit, Yes Please!

On a beautiful sunny day I can think of nothing better to do than spend an hour or so in fresh air picking fruit from trees and bushes, and that's exactly what was next on our list for things to do with the family this summer.
We hadn't had very good weather for a few days so when we saw the forecast for some truly summery weather coming our way, we jumped at the chance to plan a day out in the sunshine. If you read my blog regularly you will know that we live in the countryside which makes activities like this slightly easier and we found a place not too far away where we could go and pick fruit ourselves.

They have various types of fruit and vegetables that you can pick ranging from strawberries and cherries to string beans. We picked up a basket at the entrance and away we went foraging amongst the delicious fresh fruit. The cherry trees were our first stop and is where we spent most of our time. Although my husband has done this many times before, this was mine and my daughters first time and I loved every minute of it. There were so many cherry trees that you could just forget the outside world and become immersed in this maze of trees. We ended up with just under 2 kilos of cherries in total. So deliciously yummy!
Next we moved onto the strawberries which were housed in a sort of greenhouse which was absolutely huge filled with rows upon rows of strawberry plants. We walked amongst the rows picking the most delicious looking ones we could find.
Once the basket was full enough, we took it back to the entrance where they weighed the fruit we'd collected and we paid. The price wasn't too bad and I would say that it's comparable to supermarket prices. So if you're going to buy fruit anyway then why not spend some fun time outside with the family and pick it yourself.
We had some yummy ice cream to cool off after our little adventure amongst the fruit trees and plants. We really enjoyed ourselves and have especially been enjoying getting to gorge ourselves on all of the fruit we collected.

What do you like to do with the family on really nice summer days?
