I love baking and I love baking with my kids even more. I think it's a great way of teaching them about food and the wonderful yummy things that they can create. This time I was accompanied by my youngest daughter who is already an avid baker at just 4 years old. She felt like baking so we cracked on and baked these delicious sesame seed crunchy cookies.
What you need:
50g plain flour
25g cooled melted butter
100g sugar
15g sesame seeds
2 tsps ground cinnamon
A pinch of salt
1 tbsp water
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C (fan assisted 160 C). Lay baking paper onto a baking tray and put to one side.
2. Put the sugar, cinnamon and salt in a mixing bowl. Sieve in the flour and add the melted butter and a tablespoon of water. Stir the mixture until it becomes a dough. Add in the sesame seeds and stir some more.
3. Roll pieces of the mixture between your palms to make small balls. You don't want them to be too big because they do expand in the oven. Place the balls on the baking tray making sure that there is a good distance between each cookie and then push them flat with the back of a wet spoon. Tip: it helps to keep wetting the spoon in between flattening each cookie to stop it from sticking.
4. Put them in the over for about 10 minutes. Once done, place them on a cooling grill to cool off.
You should have nice crunchy flat cookies at the end and they are great to eat with a glass of milk. As these cookies are more savoury, they make a refreshing change from the cookies we normally make.
Thanks for reading and enjoy!
