Kids Craft: Felt stocking tree hangers

A fun thing to do with the kids at this time of year and really easy to make. This year we are not putting up the traditional stockings and my daughter was quite disappointed, so I suggested we make these ones as mini decorations for the christmas tree and she jumped at the idea. I love making all sorts of things from felt and I wanted to share this one with you.

What you need:
Pieces of felt in various colours
Needle
Coloured thread
Scissors
Candy canes or something small to put in the stocking

I have a big bag filled with pieces of felt that I bought from the art supply store a few years ago. I find it so handy for little projects like this and it was relatively inexpensive compared to the sheets of felt that you can buy.

To get started, choose two pieces that are about the same size and place them together. Then cut out a stocking shape so that you end up with two pieces of felt that are both shaped like a stocking. Thread your needle with a pretty coloured thread that is a different colour to the felt and then use a basic stitch around the edge of the stocking, leaving the top of the stocking open. If you leave the top open then you can pop a candy cane or something similar in the stocking when you're done.
When you're done stitching, make a loop out of the thread at the top of the stocking and knot it to finish.
Now just pop that candy cane in the top and you're ready to hang it in your tree.

Have fun!
